This project was made for the Photo Portrait Now competition held in the National Portrait Gallery.
'In my work, I explore the space between reality and imagination, drawing inspiration from the classic children's book Where the Wild Things Are. The idea was to was to have my little brother represent his personality, imagination and quirkiness by dressing as his favourite animal- a Kingfisher. He has hearing problems and finds comfort in quiet places. The forest allows his mind and imagination to run wild a place where he can be his true self and gain confidence. The kingfisher is a metaphor for this confidence and his most confident self. I invite the viewer into a world where imagination reigns and boundaries dissolve'
This project is currently in the National Portrait Gallery, which will be up until the end of September 2025... go and have a look!
